The saying goes "A friend in need is a friend indeed", and this is very true. While we are on life's journey, we all need friend's that will help us achieve life's purpose. Our purpose is clear, Allah (SWT) said "And we did not create the Jinn and Mankind except to worship".
However, many surround themselves with 'friends' that take them away from life's purpose i.e. the worship of Allah (SWT) and in many occasions lead them down a completely wrong path. We need to surround ourselves with friends that remind us of Allah (SWT) when we see them and encourage us to be better Muslims. We are all on this journey together and therefore should try to benefit one another achieve our ultimate goal. In addition to surrounding ourselves with friends that will benefit us, it is important to be a friend that will benefit others. We need to strive to be from those who remind others about Allah (SWT), their obligation and being a decent human being. Some of the characteristics of a good friend include: Fearful of Allah (SWT) Reminds you of Allah (SWT) Invites you to that what is good and keeps you away from bad Encourages you to improve as a Muslim Never steers you wrong Defends you from harm Supports you and your family Hopes for the best for you Invests time in you & your Akhirah (hereafter) Patient with you
